U.S. Security and Exchange Commission awards USD 800’000 to whistleblower
On 15 October 2020, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (hereinafter “SEC”) has announced an award of more than USD 800’000 to a whistleblower whose information made it possible to open an investigation, which led to successful SEC enforcement actions. Furthermore, the SEC announced that this issued award was the 107th award since it began issuing awards in 2012 in a total amount of over USD 562 million in eight years. The SEC emphasised that all these payments were made out of an investor protection fund established by the Congress that is financed entirely through monetary sanctions paid to the SEC by securities law violators.
