Publication of Joint FATF-EG Trade-Based Money Laundering Report
On 9 December 2020, the FATF and the Egmont Group have published their newest report on trade-based money laundering. Pursuant to both organisations, international trade networks might attract criminals and terrorists’ financiers that exploit the interconnected supply chains to launder the proceeds of crime or to finance terrorism. Therefore, it would be important for the public and the private sector to understand this technique, even though recognising trade-based money laundering might be difficult. Thus, the new report would aim at helping them with the challenges of detecting trade-based money laundering by using numerous case studies from the FATF’s Global Network. In addition, it highlights recommendations to address the trade-based money laundering risks.
