Objectives for the FATF during the German Presidency (2020-2022)

As of 1 July 2020, Germany not only took the presidency of the Council of the European Union, but also the presidency of the Financial Action Task Force, the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog (hereinafter “FATF”).  New FATF President Marcus Pleyer presented the objectives for the upcoming two-year plenary period (July 2020-June 2022). Therefore, during the German Plenary years, the FATF shall prioritise work in the following areas: (i) digital transformation of AML/CFT, (ii) Financing of ethnically or racially motivated terrorism, (iii) money laundering and migrant smuggling, (iv) illicit arms trafficking as well as (v) environmental crime.
