New EU Legislation Tackling Work-Life Balance
The European Commission recently announced new legislation to address work-life balance and women’s underrepresentation in the labor market. The initiative aims to modernise the existing EU legal framework on family leave and flexible working arrangements.
The proposal for a Directive on reconciling professional and private life for parents and carers includes an introduction of paternity leave for fathers, a strengthening the existing rights of parental leave, the introduction of carers’ leave for workers providing personal care and the extension of the existing right to request flexible working arrangements to all working parents of children up to at least 8 years old, and all carers.
