Commission of the Swiss National Council concludes its deliberations of revision regarding the Federal Act on Data Protection
The Swiss Data Protection Act (DPA) has been under revision for some time. The revised Data Protection Act is intended to create a modern body of regulations that is in alignment with the European standards of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The revision of the DPA is a prerequisite for the EU to continue to recognise Switzerland as a third country with an adequate level of data protection and thus not to make cross-border data exchange any more difficult. In the meantime, the National Council’s Policy Commission (SPK-NR) has completed its deliberations on the draft DPA. On several points, such as data portability and personal data requiring special protection, it has deviated from the Federal Council’s draft.
